Foothills Educational Grants
The board of Foothills Chapter (FH) of the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society (RMDS) supports the continuing education of its members. Our Educational Grant Program financially supports our members’ participation in educational programs sponsored by the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), RMDS, FH or local dressage barns/trainers.
1. To fulfill the purpose of this policy, a member must work without pay at a FH- or RMDS-sponsored event.
2. Members can apply for $25 in scholarship funds for each half day worked (at least 3 hours). The maximum value for a FH educational grant is $100 per member per calendar year.
3. When a member works at such an event, he/she must submit to the FH Educational Grant Chair a Foothills Educational Grant Application along with completed FH Volunteer Verification Form signed by the show manager/event organizer.
4. Upon his/her approval, the Educational Grant Chair will give the form to the FH Treasurer who will issue a check to the member. The purpose of the check is to help defray the cost of the applicant’s past participation in a current year educational event.
5. Only logged time for the current year may be applied towards reimbursement for events in the current year.
6. In addition, upon vote of the FH board, educational grant funds may be awarded to individuals to help pay for extraordinary out-of-state show expenses.
7. If the annual FH Educational Grant Fund has been exhausted, no more educational grants can be awarded in that calendar year.
Recipients of one or more FH educational grants cannot use their FH Educational Grant-compensated hours to apply for one or more RMDS scholarships. They may, however, document additional hours on the RMDS Volunteer Form which they can, in turn, use to apply for an RMDS scholarship. Click on the form online at rmds.org, then “Forms” in left hand column, then “Volunteer Hours” under “Miscellaneous”.
Volunteering is an educational experience. Foothills doubles the value of volunteering to our members.
The 2018 educational grant chair is Marilou Metcalf, metcalfmmd@mac.com.
